Mr. Stern is CEO and Co-Founder of Stern Risk Partners. Michael has been in the insurance brokerage industry for more than 15 years. Throughout his tenure in the industry, he has gained diverse experience in every capacity of buying, operating, growing and selling an insurance brokerage operation, including being a very successful producer.
Michael began his career as a Corporate Finance Analyst for a regional investment bank in Arkansas, gaining experience in the intricate working of financial statements, valuations, pro forma modeling, acquisitions and other types of corporate transactions. He then became Vice President of Finance for the insurance broker Hobbs Group and was responsible for the operational workings of the company including budgeting, forecasting, creating internal operational models, implementing expense reduction plans and drafting incentive plans. He was also involved in acquisitions from diligence and valuation to the close of the transaction, and was a critical part of the deal team when Hobbs sold to HRH.
Michael next became the Head of Finance for Beecher Carlson, responsible for financial due diligence and acquisitions. To further his knowledge in the industry, he moved to the brokerage side of the business as a Producer. Within three years, Michael built an individual book of business of over $2 million in annual revenues. He was promoted to Managing Director and was responsible for Beecher Carlson’s newly created National Real Estate Practice, with a sales team of six Producers reporting to him. Michael created a value proposition that allowed his sales team to easily articulate their capabilities and differentiate themselves from other brokers. As Managing Director, Michael continued to grow his personal book of business, and with his team was responsible for producing $7 Million in annual company revenue.
Michael received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and also a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Saint Louis University. He also earned his Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Emory University. Michael was twice named as Risk & Insurance Magazine’s “Power Broker 40 Under 40”.

Mr. Ouimette is President and Co-Founder of Stern Risk Partners. Prior to founding Stern Risk Partners, Mark was Managing Director for 10 years at Beecher Carlson. Before joining Beecher Carlson, Mark was a Vice President with RiskCap, an independent captive consulting and management firm.
Mark has been involved with the insurance industry in a variety of capacities over the past 25 years. He has extensive knowledge of the alternative risk insurance market focusing on captives, rent-a-captives and risk retention groups. As a leader in Beecher Carlson’s national captive practice, he was responsible for developing captive opportunities for new and existing clients. Mark has specific expertise as a technical client consultant in captive program structure and design, project feasibility, pro-forma modeling, financial analysis, program licensure and placement of fronting, insurance and reinsurance. He worked alongside Beecher Carlson’s retail producers to deliver creative captive and risk financing solutions for large national and regional risk management accounts.
As a former shareholder and owner in several successful agency-owned captive programs, Mark provides a unique perspective on the risks and rewards associated with these ventures. His background as a retail and wholesale producer provides valuable insight to corporations on the transition from the traditional insurance market to various alternative risk solutions. Prior to his 25 year tenure in the insurance industry, Mark spent five years in commercial banking.
Mark received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Management and Finance from Keene State College, NH and holds the insurance professional designation of Associate in Risk Management (ARM). He is a frequent speaker at both insurance and financial conferences on the subject of captive feasibility and usage. Mark also received Risk and Insurance Magazine’s “Power Broker” award in 2007 for his creative insurance contributions to the Construction Industry.

Mr. Mooneyham is Executive Vice President - Captives at Stern Risk Partners. Prior to joining Stern Risk Partners, Kirk was Managing Director – Captive Management Services for Wilmington Trust where he was responsible for managing all administrative and business operations of the captive management operations. These operations included the feasibility analysis, design, implementation, and management of captive insurance companies in various domiciles.
Prior to joining Wilmington Trust. Kirk led the Denver captive management office for Beecher Carlson. Kirk has 12 years of experience in the captive insurance industry and over six years in public accounting. He has managed captives domiciled in Arizona, Nevada, Vermont, Delaware, South Carolina, Washington, D.C., and the Cayman Islands, and he has worked with various types of entities including risk retention groups, segregated cell companies, association, and group captives. Kirk has extensive experience providing day-to-day accounting, monthly and year-end financial statement preparation, audit support, budgeting/forecasting services, and regulatory guidance for captive entities of various sizes and lines of business.
Kirk holds a Masters of Accountancy from Clemson University and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Erskine College. He received his Certified Public Accountant certificate in the state of Colorado. He is a member of the Alternative Risk Transfer Committee of the Self-Insurance Institute of America, Inc., and has served as a director and officer of numerous captive insurance companies.
